Kevin Burns is a founder and director of Alabama Center for Employee Ownership and Sand Mountain Cooperative Education Center, nonprofits whose mission is to expand and strengthen employee ownership in Alabama. In his work with ALCEO, Kevin provides education and outreach on how employee ownership can secure legacy and provide wealth and dignity to the community. With SMCEC, Kevin is a cooperative development lead who provides the training and resources businesses need to successfully navigate a transition to employee ownership. He also manages operations for SMCEC's educational youth program Lamplight Summer Camp and its afterschool program. Kevin was formerly a New York City public school teacher for six years, where he taught 7th grade social studies. He earned a BA in History at New York University and a MA in Teaching Instruction at Teachers College, Columbia University.
